Explore Mexico City’s iconic downtown. Visit the archaeological site of El Templo Mayor, remains of the ancient aztec capital Tenochtitlan. Walk around and experience the vibes of the busy streets around the Zocalo square and its inifinity of vendors. Visit some of the Colonial palaces transformed into amazing museums, restaurants and hotels. Check out the many plazas, churches and pedestrian streets (recommendations provided and guides available if requested). In the evening check out one of the cool neighborhoods of Roma, Condesa or Juarez for drinks and dinner (recommednations provided).
Morning stroll through Mexico City’s amazing markets (recommendations provided and guide available if requested). Explore the famous witchcraft market of Sonora, and the vibrant flower market of Jamaica. Try some of the local delicious street food available (recommendations provided). After the markets a private driver will take you to the ancient city of Teotihuacan.
Discover the archaeological site of Teotihuacan and its immense pyramids. An ancient cultural and religious hub, Teotihuacan was one of the most important pre-Columbian cities. Older than most of the Mesoamerican cities and extremely advanced technologically, its systematic burnt and abandonment still remains a major mystery.
Discover Mexico City’s beautiful south. Learn about the old way of growing fruits and vegetables on floating islands or chinampas in charming Xochimilco. Try some of the local Mexican delicacies while floating through its canals aboard one of its colorful trajineras. After that, head to the stunning bohemian neighborhood of Coyoacan, birthplace of world-famous Mexican female artist Frida Kahlo. Visit her house and the fabulous collection of some of her pieces and belongings. Finish the day shopping for cool handcrafts, eating Mexican food and drinking mezcal in one of the bars and restaurants aligned around Coyoacan central plaza (recommendations provided).
Central Mexico is home to several impressive volcanoes. One of them is the Nevado de Toluca, an active (but dormant) volcano with a huge caldera with 2 emerald-green lakes inside. The volcano is reachable by car and a hike (recommendations and map provided or guide if requested) and its one of the most impressive places in the world. Spend the day surrounded by extraterrestrial scenery above the clouds.
Discover the forest of Chapultepec and its numerous attractions. This enormous urban park, twice the size of New York City’s Central Park, includes 7 amazing art and history museums, 2 lakes, a zoo and a castle. The Castle of Chapultepec, built to host the Austrian royal family that was ruling Mexico back in the 19th century, is one of Mexico City’s best landmarks with stunning panoramic views from the top of the hill where it is nested. Another incredible place to visit is the National Museum of Anthropolgy with its impressive collection of pre-Columbian artifacts from all over Mexico (reccomendations provided and guides available upon request). After Chapultepec head to Polanco, one of the city’s upscale neighborhoods with several incredible museums, parks, restaurants and bars (recommendations provided).
Spend a day taking a break from the city discovering the tranquil town of Tepoztlan, its amazing mountains, green valleys and colorful streets. Hike up the legendary Tepozteco, the towns iconic mountain (recommendations and map provided) and try the regional delicacies at the vibrant local market. Go back to Mexico City in the afternoon.
